makeup.gifThe website, MakeUp.com recently sold for a seven figure price to makeup company L’Oreal; the domain was transferred to L’Oreal USA Creative, Inc. in early March.

Personally I think the generic domain name sold relatively low.

L’Oreal is already one of the worldwide leaders in the makeup and beauty industry and acquiring this domain name will increase the success of an already successful company.

According to Ron Jackson at DNJournal, Moniker competed the sale of Guns.com for $800,000 March 10.

Guns.com is third followed by Poker.org and Credit.fr in biggest sale overall this year.

Sex.com up for sale. Again.

When sex.com sold for a reported, but never confirmed, $14million back in 2006, everyone thought it was the end of a (very) long story.
After all this domain history is so complex that even a book has been written on it!

Poker.org Sold for $1 Million

Sedo recently brokered the largest .org sale to date for A-1 National Advertising. Poker.org was sold to PokerCompany.com for $1 million. Prior to this, the highest sale of a .org was $198,000 for engineering.org, followed by sexe.org for $151,400.

The buyers of the domain, PokerCompany.com, are an affiliate marketing company who help acquire customers for many major poker rooms, casinos, skill game and betting companies on the internet. They also operate a number of other websites including: EveryPoker.com, InsideBet.com, Craps.net, Blackjack.org, Rakeback.org and Loyalty.net.

AlexanderMcQueenFashions.com for sale on eBay

alexanda.jpgAlexander McQueen, a top English fashion designer known for his amazing designs passed away on February 11th, 2010, aged 40. On the same day as his death the domain name InMemoryOfAlexanderMcQueen.com was registered and then placed on eBay for US $1,000,000. This auction was listed at 10:11am; just hours after Lee McQueen’s death was reported.

Following this trend five other Alexander McQueen inspired domain names were also listed on online auction site, eBay.com. All of the below domain names were created on the 11th, 12th or 13th of February, just days after the international designer’s death.

Low cost domains can be high value

One recommended strategy is to focus on mid to high cost domains and sell them in the long term for a very high amount of money. After all, your only yearly cost is a few dollars.

However, it can be more interesting financially to focus on low cost domains. Their resell value can be a lot more, provided you buy only domains which have got a real value rather than simply gambling.

Watch your TLD’s when buying domains

New TLD‘s are continually being added and it can be easy to get caught up in these.

A generic name, such as ‘shoes.com’ can prove to be a good investment but a domain of another TLD, such as shoes.do or shoes.dm, will generally have a much lower value.

There are ways to benefit from ccTLD‘s and gTLD‘s, although this can prove to be very difficult.

.Asia Domains Not Worth Much

People who have invested in the regional TLD, .asia will be disappointed to know that their domains probably aren’t worth much. Recently sold at auction were five generic .asia domains, which did not sell for substantial amounts, considering what they would if they were domains of another TLD or ccTLD (like .com or .fr).
