Haiti Earthquake Domain Names

haiti.jpgInternet users have been warned to take care donating towards the latest natural disaster, in Haiti.

The FBI has warned those wishing to donate money, to those affected by the misfortunate natural disaster, to not respond to unsolicited incoming emails and to be wary of those who represent themselves as a victim through emails or social networking sites.

It is important that you are aware when opening files of images from the Haiti disaster that they could contain viruses.

Associated Press has reported that “more than 400 Internet addresses related to Haiti have been registered since Monday’s devastating quake’.

Disney Domain Dispute

8l.com sold through online auction site, Sedo, for USD$14,000. Sedo also recently sold 9l.com for USD$10,099. Both 8l.com and 9l.com do not contain websites, as of yet.

Two letter domain names are rare and nearly all are currently registered; they are valuable because they are short and easy to remember.

Short URL’s are helpful when a user is limited to a certain number of
characters, such as on Twitter. When using most Twitter applications,
whenever a long URL is entered in a tweet, it is automatically
shortened, using a shortening service like bit.ly.

These shortening services usually take advantage of recently released
TLD’s to get a domain name as short as possible. Recently, Google
jumped on the bandwagon with goo.gl, another URL shortening service.

Victoria’s Secret believed that the website www.victoriassecretpromotion.com was clearly similar to their trademark and had been registered in foul play to redirect Victoria’s Secret customers to www.victoriassecretpromotion.com.
