VeriSign Registers Record Numbers

verisign-logo.jpgVeriSign recently announced that it registered a record number of visitors for online sales during the year-end holidays this year. These numbers clearly indicate an increase in traffic on e-commerce sales.
Online shoppers saw the VeriSign seal approximately 789 million times, up roughly 50% year over year. VeriSign seals are common fixtures on web pages of leading merchants. The VeriSign Secured Seal indicates that the Web site is secured by SSL encryption and the identity of the business has been authenticated. VeriSign is the authorized directory provider for roughly over 89 million .com, .net, .cc, and .tv domain names.

News Corp. blocking Google – In talks with Microsoft’s Bing

News Corp. is considering blocking Google’s Internet search engine from displaying its news article and is talking to Microsoft about listing only on its site, reported by Sarah Rabil at Bloomberg.

Microsoft is seeking exclusive content to draw users to its Bing search engine in an industry dominated by Google, which has about six times as many U.S. users. News Corp. Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Rupert Murdoch said this month he may block Google from scanning and indexing stories from his newspapers, which include the Wall Street Journal and Times of London.

Yahoo Gives Out SYNDICATION Rights to DDC!

yahoo-logo.gifJust received an email from Yahoo effectively advising that they have given Syndication of their Search Feeds the GREEN light.

Yahoo have removed the daily caps, removed all the other restrictions that were with the original Yahoo Search APIs. Well Done Yahoo… that sure is one way to get a lot of third party tools using Yahoo search, aka greater search share for Yahoo.

Yahoo to Shut Down their Paid Inclusion Programs


yahoo-logo.gifYahoo has annouced that by the end of this year all forms of Paid Inclusion into the Yahoo Search Index will be shut down!

This is probably the best news I have heard from Yahoo for a long time for Domainers.

Background… Trellian was a long standing Yahoo partner, reselling Paid Inclusion services via our Priority Submit service since 2001, since the good old Inktomi and AltaVista paid inclusion days. Unfortunately Inktomi was acquired by Overture and shortly later Overture and AltaVista was acquired by Yahoo.
