Registration
How do I register a domain name?
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Register - Dashboard' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Type in your desired domain name and click the 'Search' button.
  4. If the domain is available, select your desired extensions and click the 'Add To Cart' button.
  5. If you are ready to order, click the 'Checkout' button then place a check mark in the 'I accept the terms and conditions' box and click the 'Checkout' button.
How do I register a domain name for more than one year?
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Register - Dashboard' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Type in your desired domain name and click the 'Search' button.
  4. If the domain is available, select your desired extensions and click the 'Add To Cart' button.
  5. If you are ready to order, click the 'Checkout' button
  6. Select the number of years from the drop down list then place a check mark in the 'I accept the terms and conditions' box and click the 'Checkout' button.
Do I get a discount if I buy domain names in bulk?
Please check the Discount Coupon page for current specials and bulk discounts or contact us for discounts on transfers or registrations over 100 domains.

You can also use the Savings Calculator tool in Portfolio Manager to see how much you can save by tranferring domains to us.
What forms of payment does Above.com accept?
Credit Card: Visa, Mastercard and Amex.

I registered the wrong domain. What can I do?
Unfortunately there is nothing we can do.
What is a "TM Claim" (Trademark Claim)?
If when attempting to register a domain you see a "TM Claim" icon, this means the domain matches a Trademark Claim in the Trademark Clearinghouse database. The claims period lasts for 90 days after a new TLD's general availability launch.

Can I register a domain with a Trademark Claim?
If you are the trademark holder or are otherwise authorized to register the domain, you can click the "TM Claim" icon to view the claim details and acknowledge you understand the terms. Once this is done, a checkbox will appear, allowing you to register the domain.

Note that the trademark holder(s) listed in the claim will be notified of your registration and if they believe you are not entitled to register the domain, they may take legal action to obtain control of the domain.
How do I renew my domain?
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Manage Domains' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Select the checkboxes of the domains you wish to renew.
  4. Click on the 'Renew' button at the top of the table.
  5. Choose the number of years to renew the domains for.
  6. Review the cost of the domain renewal and click the 'Submit' button.
My domain expired! Is there a Renewal Grace Period?
The grace period for most expired domains is 40 days.

If you do not renew before the 40 days, you will need to pay the Restore Fee on top of the renewal.
Please Note: You can only restore a domain for 30 days, any longer than this and we cannot restore this for you.
What is a domain restore? Why does it cost so much in comparison to a domain renewal?
This is when your domain has expired and is in the redemption period. The reason this costs more is because registry charges more for this procedure.


Transfer
How do I initiate a Change of Ownership request?
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Manage Domains' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Select the checkboxes of the domains you wish to change.
  4. Click the 'Push' button at the top of the table.
  5. Enter the other person's Above.com username.
  6. Click the 'Push Domain' button.
How long does a domain transfer take?
A domain transfer takes up to 5 working days.
How do I transfer my domains to Above.com from another registrar?
  1. Make sure that the domain(s) to be transferred are UNLOCKED at the losing registrar.
  2. Get the authcode from the losing registrar for each domain to be transferred.
  3. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  4. Select 'Transfer' link from the Registrar section.
  5. Enter your Domain followed by the Authcode in the text field, e.g.: test.com,authpass123.
  6. Select the button labeled 'Transfer'.
How do I unlock my domain?   
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Manage Domains' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Place a check mark beside the domain name you would like to unlock.
  4. Click the 'More…' button on top of the table.
  5. Select the 'Domain Locks' option on the left and 'Unlock' on the right hand side of the popup window.
  6. Click the 'Submit' button to save your changes.

Why can't I unlock my domain?

Domains that have been registered or transferred in will incur a 60 day lock. This is per ICANN policy and is aimed at preventing domain theft. When the 60 days has passed, the domain will be automatically changed to the client lock and then can be unlocked when needed.

Domains that are registry or registrar locked cannot be unlocked.

How do I get an Authorization Code for my domain?   
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Manage Domains' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Place a check mark next to the domain name for which you need an authcode.
  4. Click the 'More…' button on top of the table.
  5. Select 'Request authcode' and click the 'Submit' button.

DNS
What is DNS?
The Domain Name System (DNS) is a hierarchical distributed naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It associates various information with domain names assigned to each of the participating entities. Most importantly, it translates domain names meaningful to humans into the numerical identifiers associated with networking equipment for the purpose of locating and addressing these devices worldwide.

What are primary and secondary name servers?
Theoretically domain names can work with only one name server we call this the primary DNS. However, imagine what happens if this DNS goes offline? There are enough examples where a domain name needed at least two name servers assigned in order to be available at any time. This back-up requirement has turned into an accepted Internet standard that prevents domain names from going offline.
How do I change my domain DNS (name servers)?   
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Manage Domains' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Place a check mark next to the domain name for which you wish to modify, then click the 'DNS' button
  4. In the Set DNS window, click 'Custom'
  5. Enter your hosting providers' name server details in the NS1 & NS2 fields
  6. Click the 'Submit' button. Note: DNS changes can take up to 48 hours to propagate to some DNS servers and ISPs.

How do I add custom DNS records (A, CNAME, MX & TXT)?
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Manage Domains' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Click on the domain you wish to modify (click the domain name).
  4. On the Domain Details page, click the 'Edit DNS Records' link.
  5. Add or edit appropriate DNS records on this page.
  6. Click the 'Submit' button to save your changes.

Note: Custom DNS records are for advanced users only. We recommend using your web hosting name servers in most cases. Our support team is not able to assist you with advanced DNS records.


Verification
How do I get verified?
Getting your account verified is quick and easy with our automated verification system.

To use the automated system, please log into your Above.com account and click on the Account Status Restricted link beside your account name in the upper right.

From here you can see what has not been verified and can then use the verification link to verify that item.
Why must my account be verified?
We verify accounts in order to know whom we are working with. This reduces the likelihood of fraud and as a result keeps our cost and your price as low as possible.


Two Step Authentication
What is Two Step Authentication?
Two Step Authentication (also known as Two-factor authentication or 2FA) is an added layer of security requiring a unique code is entered whenever performing changes to domains in your account. Two Step Authentication prevents the following functions from being used without the unique code: set DNS, view/add/delete DNS records, domain Push, domain Delete, Request authcode and URL Forwarding/Redirection.
My back up codes do not work?
Back up codes can only be used only once. If new codes are generated, all previous codes generated will no longer work.
Can I enable the authenticator on mulitple devices?
To install the authenticator app on multiple devices, use the Move to different phone option and scan the QR code on all devices.

If you are enabling Two Step Authentication for the first time, you can scan the setup QR code on multiple devices before continuing to the next step.

Do you charge any additional fee for using your API?
Using the Above.com Registrar API is free for approved applicants.
Which TLDs does your API support?
Most TLDs supported by Above.com Registrar are supported through our API. To see a list of supported TLDs, please use the Check Pricing API function.
How can I obtain my API key?
Please submit your application for API access via the API request form.
Where can I find my API settings?
Your API key can be found by logging into your account, clicking My Account in the top-right on the screen, then clicking the API Access Details link.

Other
What is domain whois privacy?
Domain privacy is a service offered by a number of domain name registrars. A user buys privacy from the company, who in turn replaces the user's info in the WHOIS with the info of a forwarding service (for email and sometimes postal mail, done by a proxy server).

Do you offer web and email hosting?
We do not offer this service.
How do I set whois privacy on my domain?
  1. Log into you Above.com Registrar account.
  2. Select 'Manage Domains' link from the Registrar section.
  3. Select the checkbox of the domains you wish to change.
  4. Click the 'More…' button on top of the table.
  5. Select the 'Domain Privacy' option on the left side of the popup and the 'Enable Domain Privacy' option on the right side.
  6. Click the 'Submit' button to save your settings.
How do I request a refund?
Refunds are processed on a case by case basis and can be requested by emailing support@above.com with the following:
  • Your account username,
  • The Order ID or domain you are requesting a refund of,
  • The reason for the refund request,
  • If you would like the refund to be added to your Above.com account balance or to the method of payment. (Credit card or PayPal)
Note: Failed domain registration refunds are automatically processed and added to your Above.com account balance.

Important:
  • Any merchant fees paid will not be refunded.
  • Refunds can only be made to credit card or PayPal account that made the initial payment.
Why does my domain registrant contact not update?
As per ICANN rules, when a domain is Pushed between accounts or the domain contact details are changed, both the new and previous registrant must confirm the change by clicking the link in the confirmation email sent to them.

Note: The confirmation link in the email will expire after 14 days.
How do I do URL forwarding?
You will need to change your Name Servers to a service that allows this.

Can I be paid out funds from my Above.com account balance?
Yes. You can make a request to be paid out funds from your Above.com account balance via PayPal or a bank transfer. To request a payout please:
  1. Log into your Above.com account.
  2. Select the 'My Account' link in the account drop down menu then, 'Request Payout' in the 'Payout Details' section.
  3. Select the payment method.
  4. Enter the amount to be paid out from the total available.
  5. Click on the "Request Payout" button.

Your payout request will then be processed at the end of the month.

Note: A minimum request of $100 is required for a payout via PayPal and a minimum request of $1,000 is required for a bank transfer.
