The website, MakeUp.com recently sold for a seven figure price to makeup company L’Oreal; the domain was transferred to L’Oreal USA Creative, Inc. in early March.
Personally I think the generic domain name sold relatively low.
L’Oreal is already one of the worldwide leaders in the makeup and beauty industry and acquiring this domain name will increase the success of an already successful company.
As the makeup industry continues to grow, the value of the domain name will increase, although it is unlikely the domain name will be sold again, now that a leading makeup company owns the website.
MakeUp.com has been owned previously by Manhattan Assets Corp who has owned other generic domain names such as Call.com, which sold for $1.1 million in 2009.
MakeUp.com is already an active site which allows members to blog, contribute to ‘face of the day’ and many other sections for makeup lovers. The traffic to MakeUp.com has increased since L’Oreal acquired the site in the last month.
